Lowe's is now asking for my phone number when I pay with cash! I understand the value of data mining, but this is as big a turn-off as when Radio Shack wants your personal info with every purchase.
Home Depot has been about 10% higher on most things I have compared between the two stores lately - especially plywood and trim molding. Both Lowe's & HD seem to be getting extremely proud of their lumber products.
Anyone else noticing these phenomena?

I hear you. While paying cash for a recent purchase at a computer store, I got asked for my name and replied "Alexander Hamilton."
When the cashier stared at me in disbelief, I held up a 10-spot and said "here's my ID." I thought the guy behind me in line was going to bust a gut.
You can refuse to give the information, no sweat. They are asking the phone number so they can pull up the sale transaction should you have a return without a receipt. I use an old telephone number that I can remember, but is no longer in use.
